Choosing sneakers: fit, purpose and a fair price
Compare trainers by fit, intended activity, model and seller—not just the discount or the size on your old pair.
A shoe that looks right can still be wrong for your foot or your activity. Start with what you will use it for, then compare the exact model and size. The cheapest available colour is not a saving if you cannot wear it comfortably.

Separate everyday wear from sport
Decide whether you need casual sneakers, walking shoes, running shoes or shoes for a particular sport. These uses have different demands. A lifestyle model from a sports brand is not automatically a running shoe. Read the manufacturer’s description of the model rather than relying on the retailer’s category alone.
Use the brand’s size chart
Measure both feet using the manufacturer’s instructions and use the larger measurement when its guidance calls for it. EU, UK and US labels are not interchangeable, and a foot-length measurement may differ from a number printed in centimetres on a size label. Check the correct men’s, women’s or children’s chart for the exact brand. Also check width options.
Try the fit before committing
Try both shoes with the socks you expect to wear. Check that your heel feels secure and that your toes are not cramped. Walk on a clean indoor surface within the retailer’s return conditions. Do not assume a painful fit will become comfortable after use. If you have a medical foot concern, seek advice from an appropriate clinician rather than choosing from a deal label.
Compare the same variant and seller
Match the model code, colourway, size and condition. A low listing price may apply only to one size. On marketplaces, inspect the actual seller, authenticity information, returns and warranty terms. The marketplace name alone does not identify who manufactured or sold the shoes.
Check the total and the return window
Add delivery and any return shipping charges to your comparison. Confirm the selected size at checkout and save the receipt.
